A term used in the game of craps to denote a player who is so skilled at throwing the dice that they are able to alter the conventional odds of the game. Such a player is said to be 'an arm'.

|

|
In Roulette, a plastic ball, usually white which is spun counter to the wheel’s spin, and which when landing in a pocket containing a number, determines the payoffs for that spin of the wheel.

Back-Line
|
In Craps, a bet on don’t pass.

Banker
|
In card games, the dealer. In some card games, each player becomes a banker/dealer in turn.

Bankroll
|
Also known as 'roll' or 'wad' (colloquial). It pertains to the total money that either the player or the casino has on hand to back their wagering activities. A player's bankroll can be classified as existing on several different levels. At the highest level it pertains to all money specifically set aside to support all gambling activities. A subset of this bankroll is the players traveling bankroll, or the amount of money carried along to support gambling on a particular trip. The traveling bankroll can be further divided into a specific lesser amounts for each day of the trip, or into even smaller amounts called table sitting or session playing stakes which predetermine how much will be risked during any given session or table sitting. These different types of bankrolls often figure into the overall money management strategy the player uses to keep control over their gambling cash activity.

Bar the 12
|
A term shown on the Craps layout, both in the don’t pass and don’t come betting areas, which bars the 12 as a winning bet for wrong bettors. In some casinos the 2 is barred instead of the 12.

|
Same as Banned. Not allowed to enter the casino premises permanently.

Beef
|
A dispute or claim involving a player and his bookmaker or a casino dealer. A dispute over the outcome of a bet. A problematic situation involving a bet.

|
The player's wager.
| |
Bet the Limit
|
Wagering the maximum amount a player is allowed to risk in any game.

Betting Limits
|
In a table game, the minimum and maximum amounts of money that a player can wager on one bet. You cannot wager less than the minimum or more than the maximum amount posted. Some casinos, in special cases, may extend the maximum limit at a table on request by the player.

|

|
In Craps, a bet, paying even money, that the 6 and/or 8 will come up on the dice before a 7 is rolled.

|
In Slots, the slang name for a specialty machine that contains eight to ten reels and is oversize, with a gigantic handle.

Bingo
|
Bingo is a prize game played in halls. Basically, players buy cards with numbers on them in a 5 x 5 grid corresponding to the five letters in the word B-I-N-G-O. Numbers such as B-2 or 0-68 are then drawn at random (out of a possible 75 in American Bingo, and 90 in British and Australian Bingo) until one player completes a 'Bingo' line with five numbers in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal row on one of their cards and wins the prize. Bingo rules and payouts and play variations vary from place to place.

Blank, Blank Ticket
|
In Keno, A piece of paper issued by the casino, containing the numbers 1 through 80, which the player marks to play keno.

|

Blower
|
In Keno, the device which blows air into the bowl or cage holding the numbered Ping-Pong balls, mixing them and forcing twenty of them into the goose.

|
Money that could be given to you for free for various reasons such as when signing up to an online casino.

Boxman
|
A casino executive who supervises the Craps table from a seated position between two standing dealers.

Break-Even Point
|
The break-even point is the point at which if you played forever, the bets you made would approximately equal the payoffs you would receive.

|
When the dealer or player’s hand exceeds a total value of 21.

|

Bring Out
|

|
A joker.

Bump
|
To raise.

Burn Card
|
The Dealer’s act of taking away the top card from the deck and placing it unseen face up at the bottom of the deck or in a separate plastic case.

|
In BlackJack, to hit a hand so that the total goes over twenty-one, making it a losing hand.

Bust Card
|

|

Cage
|
In Keno, a bowl-like device holding the Ping-Pong balls used in the game.

Call
|
In Poker, to call is to match the current bet.
| |
Caller
|
In Keno, the person who operates the blower and goose and calls out the numbers selected during the game, as each is forced into the goose.

Camouflage
|
Anything a skilled gambler does to conceal their activities from the casino. Camouflage can include mixing in playing and betting behavior that mimics typical gamblers, or using disguises, appearing to be drunk, or any number of other possible ploys intended to throw the casino's scrutiny off.

Capping
|
Referred to capping of bets. Placing extra chips on top of initial bet after the deal has begun. It is a serious form of cheating by a player.

Card Counter
|
A player who keeps track of cards played out from the deck to determine if the deck is favorable or unfavorable.

Card Counting
|
To keep track of several groups of cards in the deck, such as the 3-6s and 10-value cards, to determine the favorability of the remainder of the deck.

Card Shark
|
A person who is an expert at cards.

Carousel
|
A group of slot machines that are positioned in a ring, enabling a change person (to change bank-notes into coins) to stand in the center.

|

Case money
|
Emergency money.
| |
Cashcheck
|
A feature used by some online casinos software that allows you to review your financial transaction history.

|

Casino Advantage
|
The edge that the House (casino) has over the players.

Casino Checks
|
The casino’s term for chips issued by the house.

|
A reduced hotel-room rate (price) that the casinos offer to good customers.

Catches
|
In Keno, the numbers chosen by the player which correspond to those selected by the operator of the keno game.

Change Color
|
To change casino chips into larger or smaller denominations. This is done by a standing dealer.

Chase
|
Having lost money on a bet, 'chasing' is having another bet simply to try and get back the loss.

Check
|
In casino gambling, a check is another term for a chip. In Poker, a player can 'check' in order to stay in the game but not bet.

Chip, Chips
|
Round plastic discs. Casinos require that you use chips for betting. They are purchased at the gaming tables and exchanged at the cashier's booth or cage.

Chip Tray
|
The tray in front of a dealer that holds that table’s inventory of chips.

Chips
|
The common term for the tokens issued by the casino in place of money and having the equivalent value of cash, according to the denominations of the chips.

|

Cold
|
A player on a losing streak, or a slot machine that is not paying out.

Cold Dice
|

Color Up
|

Column Bet
|
In Roulette, a wager playing 2-1, whereby players bet that the next spin will come up on any one of twelve numbers in the column they’re betting on.

|

|

|

|

|

|

Dozen Bet
|

|

First Baseman
|
The player in the first seat, the one who acts first upon his hand.

|
In Roulette, a bet covering the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3, which gives the house an edge of 7.89%.

Fish
|
A player who loses money. (It is said that "If you can't spot the fish at the table, YOU are the fish.)

|

Flat Betting
|
A way of betting where the same amount is bet on each wager. For example, if a player always bets $10 on each hand or spin and never raised or lowered their bet, they would be said to be flat betting.

|
A slot machine whose jackpot is always a fixed amount, as opposed to a progressive.

Flea
|
An annoying person who wants something for nothing. One who expects to be comped for a small wager.

Floorman
|
Casino executive who stands behind the craps table, overseeing the game and watching the play of junket members. He also determines whether credit should be given to a player.

Flop
|
In poker games, as hold'em and omaha, where five community cards are dealt. The first three of these cards are dealt all at once, face up, and are called the flop. Games with a flop can be called flop games.

Foul
|
In Pai-Gow Poker, a hand is fouled when the two-card low hand is set higher than the five-card high hand, or when the hands are set with the wrong number of cards. A fouled hand is a losing hand.

Four Flush
|
Four cards of the same suit, such as 8(H), J(H), Q(H), 3(H), together with an odd card.

Four of a Kind
|
In Poker, four cards of the same denomination.

Fourth Street
|
In Seven-card Stud poker, the second round of betting is called fourth street because players have four cards. In Texas Hold‘em poker, fourth street is the fourth card on board and the third round of betting.

|
In Craps, a bet made in addition to a line, come, or don’t come bet at correct odds. The house has no advantage on this bet.

Front Line
|
In Craps, another name for the pass line.

Front Money
|

Full House
|
In Poker, a set of three cards of the same denomination plus a set of two cards of the same denomination.

|

|

|

|
The cards originally dealt to the player or the dealer. Also, the final total of the cards help by the player or the dealer.

|

Hard Count
|
Activity in which coin (hard) currency is counted. It is usually done in a special room under tight security. Counting the change from slot machines.

Hard Hand
|
In BlackJack, any hand that does not contain an Ace valued at 11. (You can value an Ace 1 or 11 to suit you).

Hard Total
|
Any total not including an ace or where the act is counted as 1 in the hand. Example: 10, 6, ace or 10, 7 are hard 17s.

Hardway
|
The term for a 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, and 5-5 pairs of dice.

Hard Way Bet
|
In the game of Craps, a wager that the dice will come up as a pair on any of the following numbers – 4, 6, 8, and 10, before they come up easy or before a 7 is rolled.

High-Low Bet
|
An outside, straight wager on whether the next spin will be a high or low number, paid off at even money.

High Poker
|
Standard poker, as compared to low poker or lowball. In high poker, high hands win.

High Roller
|
A player that wagers big bets.

Hit
|
A term used by players to indicate that they want to draw another card. In most casinos this is done by scraping the cards toward the player.

Holding Your Own
|
Neither winning nor losing, just breaking even.

Hole Card
|
The dealer’s unseen card forming half of the original hand.

Hop Bet
|
In Craps, a one-roll wager on any number the player selects, at disadvantageous odds to the gambler.

Horn Bet
|
In Craps, a combined one-roll bet on the 2,3,11, and 12.

Hot
|
A player who is on a winning streak, or a slot machine that is paying out.

Hot Hand
|
In Craps, a shooter who is continually making points and numbers while rolling the dice is said to have a hot hand.

Hot Roll
|

|

A player's bankroll can be classified as existing on several different levels. At the highest level it pertains to all money specifically set aside to support all gambling activities. A subset of this bankroll is the players traveling bankroll, or the amount of money carried along to support gambling on a particular trip. The traveling bankroll can be further divided into a specific lesser amounts for each day of the trip, or into even smaller amounts called table sitting or session playing stakes which predetermine how much will be risked during any given session or table sitting. These different types of bankrolls often figure into the overall money management strategy the player uses to keep control over their gambling cash activity.
